Lipofibroadenoma of the thymus: a case report

چکیده
UNLABELLED We observed an unusual case of Lipofibroadenoma (LFA) in the anterior mediastinum with a 21-year-old man, who was detected with a mass on a chest X-ray scan for one month. Thymothymectomy was then performed and the mass was excised completely, in which the tumor was histologically composed of epithelial cells, lymphocytes, mature adipose and fibrous tissue. Within the tumor, the fat cells was distributed singly or multifocally under the ground of fibro tissue with hyaline degeneration, and the epithelial cells were arranged as crack structure with lymphocytes infiltrated sparsely. By immunohistochemical staining assay, the epithelial cells were positive for AE1/AE3 and CK19, and the lymphocytes were CD3 and CD20 positive. Based on the histological characters, a diagnosis of LFA was made, and the total follow-up period was determined to be forty six months. The final repeated CT scan revealed no recurring or residual lesions were detected during the post-surgical course. Thymolipoma-associated Myasthenia Gravis with High Titer of Anti-MuSKAb: A Case Report
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular junction disorder caused by pathogenic autoantibodies to some parts of the post-synaptic muscle endplates. About 85% of generalized MG patients have autoantibodies against post-synaptic acetyl-choline receptors (AChR). From the 10-15% of the remaining patients, 45-50% are positive for Muscle Specific Tyrosine Kinase-Antibody (MuSK-Ab). It is believed th...
متن کاملEvaluation of Thymic Changes after Median Sternotomy in Children
In patients who undergo median sternotomy to treat congenital heart diseases, a thymectomy is performed to yield better access to the cardiac system. In this study we have used MRI to evaluate the changes in size, shape and location of the thymus after midsternatomy. This case-control study was performed during 2011-2012 in Shiraz, Iran. Eligible participants between 5-17 years of age were divi...
متن کاملSignificance of MIBI scintigraphy in a patient with hydatid cyst and parathyroid adenoma
A 17-year-old boy with hyperparathyroidism exhibited a large cyst in the left hemi-thorax on his chest X-ray. The cyst was identified as a hydatid cyst. He was referred for biphasic methoxy isobutyl isonitrile (MIBI) parathyroid scan. A discrete ectopic parathyroid was detected in the left upper mediastinum in addition to accumulation of the MIBI tracer in the cyst wall. Using radio-guided occu...
متن کاملManagement of Metastatic Colorectal Carcinoma with GcMAF Forte and Thymus Peptides: A Case Report
In the recent years immunotherapy has gained important role in cancer management. Immunostimulating effects of thymus-derived peptides on carcinogenesis have been actively studied in both animals and humans. Gc protein derived macrophage-activating factor (GcMAF) was found to have potent effect on macrophage phagocytic activity. Immunostimulating effects of GcMAF and peptides of thymus can be e...
